May 16, 2026
Hmong American Day is observed each year on May 14 to honor the history, sacrifices, resilience, and contributions of Hmong Americans. It recognizes the journey of Hmong people who came to the United States, including many who supported the United States during the Secret War in Laos and later built new lives and communities in America.
This day provides an opportunity to preserve Hmong culture and traditions, educate future generations, celebrate our heritage, and bring people of all backgrounds together in unity and community.
May 14 holds special historical significance. It marks the fall of Long Cheng, a major Hmong and U.S. military base in Laos during the Secret War, and the final airlift evacuation of Hmong soldiers and their families from Laos to safety in Thailand in 1975.
Following the war, many Hmong refugees eventually resettled in the United States and began building new communities and new lives.
Today, Hmong American Day is a time to:
Remember our history
Honor those who sacrificed for freedom
Celebrate Hmong culture and achievements
Preserve our traditions and heritage
Educate future generations
Build stronger communities together
United Cultural Center celebrates Hmong American Day as a reminder of where we came from, how far we have come, and the importance of preserving our culture for generations to come.
Many Cultures. One Community.
